Hey there everyone! Today was extremely productive, even though my knees have been feeling a little bit weak. They aren’t painful, just kind of tender…if that makes sense. Anyway, I have decided to just continue on with my workouts regardless….being careful with my knees in the process as much as possible.

So, today, I went out to my favorite park here in the area and ran 5K in 32:14! I was really happy with the time. It was humid and one of the hottest days so far this Spring (80s), but I didn’t want to stop. I am gradually getting back to my old running self again. For a while there, when I was training for the half marathon, I felt like nothing could stop me…but quickly, you find out that the only thing that can stop you is yourself. But I am going again and that’s what matters.

I also got in my Insanity workout…Pure Cardio. It’s pure craziness. I love it though. This program is exactly what I need to get myself into shape. Tomorrow is a Cardio Recovery day…so I can take it slightly easier. But I will also be doing some abs work at some point. I will have to do my workouts early though, because I have to work 2nd shift….boo.

Also, I want a pair of Vibram FiveFingers. And a solid road bike. And a place to swim where there isn’t a bunch of other people around. Is that too much to ask??

Whoa. Today marked the most activity I’ve put in thus far since I started Insanity. I managed to run the entire 3 miles, as opposed to the intervals. It’s nice to be back up to just about a 5K again. I ran a half marathon in Oct ’09; loved it but took a week off to rest my legs….but then a week turned into months. The winter months to be exact. If nothing else, it has proven to me that there is no need to stop after long distances like that. I should just take it easier that next week. I am planning another half marathon for August or September. There are two in Chicago I am considering…haven’t chosen which one yet.

During my 3 mile run today, I pushed myself by asking myself “Have you sweat enough yet?” I found that I kept saying “no,” regardless of how tired I was. I wanted to sweat more. I wanted to exert myself more. Try it sometime when you are doing your workout. Have you sweat enough? If you stop, are you content with that workout? 9 times out of 10, it’ll keep your body moving. I can say, without a doubt, that I sweat enough today. My shirt from the Insanity workout is full evidence of this…haha. It’s all about continuous improvement everyday….whether it’s mental or physical. And to do that, you have to sweat….a lot. You have to perspire until you’re blue in the face. *Be safe, of course…but never stop too early….and if you do, start moving again*

Always treat yourself to being able to say that you exerted yourself enough that day, while being completely honest with yourself. In my Insanity workouts, I go to failure. I go until I can’t anymore. Until my body just won’t do the movements. It works. I make sure I am not hurting myself…but if I have properly warmed-up, that is more unlikely.

Anyway…the workouts were great today. One more day tomorrow for Week 2. It’s TWO workouts….Pure Cardio (which is an absolute beast all in its own) and Cardio Abs (which I have not been through yet). It will prove tough, I’m sure. Sunday, I weigh myself. I’m nervous. I’ve been eating good…working my ass off…let’s hope for something. But I am more interested in my measurements…so when the calipers get here, that will be a step in the right direction.

Thanks for checking in!

Today was Pure Cardio again, and I almost forgot how hard that one was….holy crap. It is incredibly tough. But I just maxed out as much as I could. Big calorie burner. I also plan to go out and do my 5K worth of intervals today as well. I will probably go around 6, so that the temperature is down and the sun is lower. It’s about 79 outside right now, which is beautiful. I run better in cooler temperatures though…60-70 or so. Who doesn’t though, right?

I’m also going to go throw the ball with my dog later, since it is so nice out….I’m sure he’d like that and it’ll just be a good way to take in the day. With summer, though, comes waking up extra early or waiting until close to dusk to run. But at least I CAN run…as opposed to trying to get in 3-5 miles in blistering cold wind and icy conditions all the time.

I ordered body fat calipers and a body measure to keep track of other things besides JUST my weight. I think every two weeks, I will take down my measurements, including my weight. What do you guys think? Is weekly too much to weigh yourself? Is bi-weekly a good middle ground?

I had one of my bosses at work tell me that they were noticing a difference in me physically because of my workouts. I was surprised with how the scale said I’d only lost a pound and I hadn’t noticed any major changes as of yet. But hey, I’ll take it! It was a driving reason behind ordering the calipers and body measure, because people always say that those give more accurate progress readings.

Well, that’s it for now! Keep on keepin’ on, people!

This was extreme. Hands down. 15 minutes straight of hardcore cardio. Not just jogging in place…but suicides, mountain climbers, variations of cardio squats, push-up/jumping combos, etc. It was insane. It’s probably the most exhausted the people in the actual video have ever been….Shaun T even admits he is nervous about doing it. haha I feel good about how it went. I pushed as hard as I could, but tried to know my limits too.

I am going to have my wife, Adrienne, do my measurements sometime this weekend hopefully. I’m already tracking my weight each week for the rest of the year. But I want to do Insanity for at least two rounds….maybe more. It just depends on what I need physically. P90X will probably be in order once I am happy with the Insanity results. I feel like I have two of the best workout regimens you can have….Insanity, which is just killer cardio…and P90X, which is killer sculpting. Maybe I’ll combine the two of them down the road. First things first, I just need to get to where I need to be.

I am hopefully going to go do a run after work today…if my legs will allow for it. hahaha It’ll just be 5K intervals again. That’s all I am going to do from here on out. Until I can run a 5K again without stopping. I’ll post again if I make it out there. Right now, it’s the plan.

Man, it’s good being back at it. I’m really enjoying it.

Thanks for checking in!

Day 3: Insanity Ordered!

March 23, 2010

So, today, I made the decision to purchase Insanity. (Lane, I got it for $75 off eBay…you would’ve been the first person I contacted if I went directly through BeachBody…just know that!) I am real pumped for it. I am going to be starting either April 1st or April 4th. I haven’t decided whether I want to start at the beginning of the month or just at the beginning of the first week of April. I will decide that soon. Either way, it’s going to work great for me, I know it. I’m excited. Lane, Josh, Angelee….you guys have Insanity possibly?

I am running the Illinois Marathon’s 5K race instead of the half marathon due to knee issues. I want to still partake, but I don’t want to over-do it. Just trying to be smart about it. Plus, I have three more half marathons scheduled for the year, so that will be plenty. 🙂 Two of them in Chicago, one in southern Indiana (Evansville)…the same one I ran in October.

I’ve also decided I am going to bike to and from work now every day I can. It’s a 4 mile trek there and back, so it will be great for extra activity.

Well…that’s it for now. Eating went good today again. Not sure of the exact calorie count, but I know I didn’t bust the limit. I will record exact tomorrow though.
